When, a few minutes ago, my eyes fell on the headline

Microsoft: Windows patch is flawed

a small collision took place somewhere at the entrance of my mind: What entered was Microsoft: Windows flaw is patched, but I was aware that something about this version of the headline — which would have been perfectly sensible — wasn’t quite right. It took me three careful re-readings until I had figured out whether the flaw was patched or the patch flawed.

Fatigue? Expectations from a site that reports on new Microsoft patches for flaws more often than on flawed patches? It can’t have been wishful thinking, given that my set-up here is all Linux.

Erroneous readings, swapped words or markers aren’t rare, of course, but why was it clear to me that something was wrong, but not what?
